Last year, after cutie Sufjan Stevens’s sold-out symphony The BQE at BAM was such a major success, the wise people of BAM asked if he’d like to help them throw a little party. Now for a second year, Stevens is back to helm The Takeover, in which BAM will become a colossal music-and-arts bash with cheap beer and video games (including Wii and Guitar Hero), going all night until 4 a.m. This year, Stevens selected four musical acts—Brooklyn Youth Chorus, St. Vincent, Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens, and the Budos Band—to rock the Opera House. Movies (including the first part of Lars von Trier’s Danish mini-series The Kingdom) will be played back-to-back in all four cinemas. Keeping you energized are DJs King Britt and Vikter Duplaix, who promise to spin in the BAMcafé till the sun comes up.
Sat., Sept. 27, 9 p.m., 2008
