Salman Rushdie discusses his Best American anthology picks

No more of his hottie wife means more time to kick literary ass for Salman Rushdie, who hosts tonight’s launch party for The Best American Short Stories 2008, of which he is the guest editor. Here, Rushdie discusses two of his most intriguing selections: Tobias Wolff’s “Bible,” about an Arab father who abducts his lazy son’s teacher in the hopes that she won’t expel him for cheating; and Kevin Brockmeier’s “The Year of Silence,” which questions how humans would react to a world void of noise—moments of complete silence where the only sound is that of their own breathing. Broadway stars Anthony Rapp and Blair Brown perform the two choice picks respectively.
