Gilbert & George wrap up a world tour

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of its "First Saturdays" program, the Brooklyn Museum invites a provocative mix of musicians and artists to ring in the good times. Among the distinguished invitees is the British duo Gilbert & George, self-proclaimed "living sculptures" (basically performance artists who never get out of character). The two, having garnered much attention for their controversial themes (their 1995 "Naked Shit Pictures" series displayed their naked bodies alongside giant turds), have chosen to bring their 20-year-retrospective world tour to a close here. The double G's will discuss their works, which riff on subjects like religion, sexuality, race, superstition, death, and terrorism. Other highlights include transsexual Kate Bornstein's performance, On Men, Women, and the Rest of Us and the screening of Michael Winterbottom's 24 Hour Party People. The night ends with a sexy salsa dance party.
Sat., Oct. 4, 5 p.m., 2008
