GROOVE TO THIS

Taye Diggs's latest explores the election season

By Angela Ashman

Friday, October 3rd 2008 at 3:47am

While Taye Diggs is probably best known as the handsome star of television (Private Practice), stage (Rent), and film (How Stella Got Her Groove Back), it's dance that's been his first love ever since taking classes at a performing-arts high school in Rochester. In 2004, with his childhood friend Andrew Palermo, Diggs founded dre.dance, a modern-dance troupe that has performed several compelling, well-received shows at venues like the Joyce Soho and Ailey Citigroup Theatre. Tonight, their new hour-long dance-theater work, titled the people, aims to get audiences in the mood for Election Day as eight dancers act out the war between the states (red and blue).
