For more than 40 years, Brooklyn-based political-art pioneer Martha Rosler has covered controversial and important subjects in her collages and video art, diving into issues like the Vietnam War, the Bosnian War, and the objectification of women. In her latest exhibition, titled "Great Power," Rosler examines the Iraq War through her signature vibrant photomontages, which combine glamorized commercial ads sliced out of magazines with violent images from Afghanistan and Iraq for compelling and often humorous results (a piece titled Invasion shows a group of male models in suits marching through a fiery war zone). As she recently told The New York Times, she hopes people make the connection between "the here and the there, and say that they are both parts of our world."
