A ROAR HEARD 'ROUND THE WORLD

Jaguares still purveys musical mystery

Once upon a time in Mexico, there was a band on the rise called Caifanes. Then, upon that group's implosion, its lead singer Saul Hernandez formed another rock en Espanol outfit, the even more wildly successful Jaguares. Now, over 20 years on, with 45 recently streeted, the quartet and its catalog are treated as something near sacred, despite being akin to an open secret in Anglo-America. If Hernandez being so, so fine in the tradition of all great frontmen still hasn't catapulted Jaguares across the great divide, here's news that perhaps will: Engaged in promoting human rights for Latinos, the band embarked on Amnesty International's Small Places tour. Now's not the time for division or borders of any kind, and Saul and 'nem are mightily crisscrossing the globe to bridge the gap.
