The well-documented love-hate relationship between filmmaker Werner Herzog and his muse, the egomaniacal Klaus Kinski, brought about some of the finest works of German cinema. Just in time for Halloween, IFC presents a fresh 35mm print of their most haunting collaboration: Nosferatu the Vampyre, starring a deathly pale bat-like Kinski with bald head, pointy ears, long fingernails, and sharp rat’s teeth. Herzog's dark homage to F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film concerns an estate agent who makes the mistake of showing a portrait of his lovely wife (Isabelle Adjani) to his client, the lonely Dracula. Death, destruction, and a town overrun with more than 11,000 live rats ensue.
