CIVIL DISCORD

Joseph Addison’s 1713 tragedy gets a revival

At the close of Cato, Joseph Addison’s 1713 tragedy, a character announces: “From hence, let fierce contending nations know/What dire effects from civil discord flow.” Well, nations haven’t really heeded the warning and theater has largely ignored the play (though it did enjoy a vogue during the American Revolution). Now the Flea, under the direction of Jim Simpson, revives it, with Andre de Shields and Reg E. Cathey.
Wednesdays-Saturdays, 7 p.m. Starts: Oct. 10. Continues through Nov. 1, 2008
