CREEP SHOW

The freaks come out at night, and they're dressed!

The Theater for the New City will be converting the block from East 10th Street, between First and Second avenues, into something that resembles scenes from Sleepy Hollow, a foggy maze of freaky madness (which, come to think of it, sounds similar to what the East Village looked like back when this tradition began in 1977). The 32nd annual Village Halloween Costume Ball features performances by swing, jazz, and bluegrass bands, poets, an all-gay-and-lesbian 18-piece orchestra, fire eaters, jugglers, stilt dancers, a Wiccan psychic reader, astral portraits, and a medieval ritual show performed by torchlight. The costume judging happens at midnight with the "Monsters and Miracles Costume Parade," which includes bizarre categories like "most botoxed" and "most born-again and again and again." So where do you fit in? Outdoor entertainment at 3, doors at 7:30, costume or formal wear is required.
Fri., Oct. 31, 3 p.m., 2008
