DEAD ALIVE

Nate Hill unveils his taxidermy masterpiece

You could say that artist Nate Hill has a serious complex of biblical proportions. For the past nine years, the 31-year-old, who earned notoriety with his Chinatown Garbage Tours, has been playing God by artfully creating his own universe of composite creatures—“new animals,” he calls them—from the body parts of dead animals. The E.V.E. Projectis his next step, on display to those seeking a creepy yet highbrow thrill this Halloween. Hill spent six months sewing together pieces of coyote, dog, octopus, squirrel, and buffalo, among others, for a work with a striking, albeit vomit-inducing, resemblance to a human female. It’ll be presented with an earlier creation of a human male (named “A.D.A.M.” of course), as the artist’s own rendition of the first couple. “I wish I had the artistic power to make people wet themselves,” he said. “But right now, I think I’m just making you puke.”
