The Signature Theatre Company devotes its 2008–2009 season to the venerable Negro Ensemble Company, which got its Off-Broadway start in 1966 in Greenwich Village. Home is the second production of the season (following Leslie Lee's The First Breeze of Summer). This revival of Samm-Art Williams's Tony-nominated 1980 play follows a rural North Carolina man's coming-of-age, beginning in the '50s and going through the Civil Rights era; Tracey Bonner, Kevin T. Carroll, and January LaVoy together play more than 25 roles. The NEC's season concludes with Charles Fuller's Zooman and the Sign in the spring.
