The Bird with the Crystal Plummage

(Dario Argento, 1970). This impressive psycho-slasher, Argento's first feature, initiated a trend towards transforming cinema into an effective machine for dispensing emotional shocks. The plot is set in motion when American writer Tony Musante, living in Rome, witnesses a murder attempt. A chilling flick, it owes a good deal to ace cinematographer Vittorio Storaro's fascinating imagery.
