BREAKIN' LOOSE

B-girls and parkour experts go on an adventure

The ladies of Decadancetheatre aren't into the type of pansy moves often found in a Pussycat Dolls show. With a feminine edge, they retain the street grit that initially made hip-hop and breakdance so defining—check out Ciara's "Like a Boy" video (minus all the dude-ish crotch-grabbing), and you'll get the idea. Tonight, under the direction of founder Jennifer Weber, the B-girls premiere MAX338, an innovative work inspired by the dips and swirls of graffiti lettering and loosely based on Maurice Sendak's children's classic, Where the Wild Things Are. To top it off, traceurs Ryan Irish and Nikkie Zanevsky of New York Parkour—both professionally trained in the French daredevil skill of scaling walls, ledges, and anything with bars—perform Set Me Free, a jaw-dropping multimedia piece choreographed by dancer and videographer Nadia Lesy.
