In interviews, the iconic German choreographer Pina Bausch, a star of Pedro Almodóvar's Talk To Her, typically comes across as a tortured, chain-smoking artist. When discussing the extremes of her artistic process, she told Ballet magazine, "It's so terrible, horrible—you go down, down, down, but you can't give up, because the dancers are always there and expect you to do something." What she has done this time with her Tanztheater Wuppertal company is Bamboo Blues, a dance-theater work of billowing, brightly colored fabrics and sensual movement inspired by the intricacies of Indian dance. If you don't often get to see dance, this is one performance you can't miss.
Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Dec. 17. Continues through Dec. 20, 2008
