SONIC BOOM

John Reis stomps his way to Santos'

The Night Marchers are the type of sceneless scene band that only happens in San Diego—the jaunty powerpop of a Ted Leo, the pub-crawl gargle of a Dropkick Murphys, the aggro-Stones bombast of a Dirtbombs, the vaguely goth tint of a GSL art-rock band, the big hooks of a Wipers, all somehow transpiring on emo factory Vagrant. But when you have the bottomless cred of someone like frontman John "Speedo" Reis (Drive Like Jehu, Rocket From the Crypt, Hot Snakes, Sultans), you can pretty much be a 400-pound gorilla and play however you like—in this case as one of the most catchy variations of his always (slightly) evolving garage stomp. Partner in crime Rick Froberg (who's played alongside Reis in both Jehu and Snakes) opens with his Brooklyn version of skeletal no-bullshit rock, the recent Sub Pop signees the Obits.
