Looking back at Elia Kazan's scandalous Baby Doll

She's a 19-year-old knockout blonde who sucks her thumb, sleeps in a crib-like bed, and won't let her husband touch her till she turns 20—but when her husband's rival (played by Eli Wallach) takes an interest in the luscious Baby Doll (Carroll Baker), all hell breaks loose in Elia Kazan's naughty comedy Baby Doll. Released in 1956 and condemned by the Legion of Decency, the film, fairly tame by today's standards, likely won't shock anyone tonight at Film Forum's special screening and discussion with two of the film's stars: Baker, nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role, and Wallach. Author/historian Foster Hirsch leads the talk.
