When it comes to hearing the feminine voice roar, Mary Seidman & Dancers aim to make a statement with MAMA, A Modern Folk Tale, a multi-company dance-and-music collaboration about the hopes, fears, and dreams of the modern woman. The company works alongside seven veteran guest artists—most of whom have been associated with (or are currently associated with) the Paul Taylor Dance Company, ZviDance, and Alvin Ailey—as well as a cast of younger dancers. Taking on a dual meaning, MAMA also relays the cries of Mother Earth through its music by addressing the destructive consequences of our indifference toward her. Dancers make use of stairs, ladders, and balconies onstage as they move to a blend of original syncopated rhythms and bluesy and folksy melodies composed by emerging talent Cristina Spinei.
Mondays, Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sun., Dec. 21, 2:30 p.m. Starts: Dec. 18. Continues through Dec. 22, 2008
