SCHLOCK ROCK

Spend Christmas with the Jewish King

Elvis is awesome—there’s no denying it. If someone told us there’d be a concert featuring a hologram-Elvis, à la the one who showed up on American Idol a couple of years ago, we’d be there. A Jewish Elvis, or Jelvis, on the other hand, wouldn’t so easily convince. After all, who needs another middle-aged crooner in a tight, sequined jumpsuit strutting around a stage when we’ve already got Neil Diamond? But since Neil—the real Jewish Elvis—doesn’t have a show tonight, Jelvis (who hails from Memphis, Egypt) is the next best thing. He’s reinterpreted the King’s songbook to bring us such gems as “Shul House Rock,” “Are You Hungry Tonight,” and “Oy Vey, My Way.”
