For "the best junior high school basketball tournament in New York City"—that's what the New York Gauchos claim and that's what they deliver—mark your calendar for the Fred Neal Christmas Classic. For more than 40 years, the Gauchos—an educational and recreational basketball program under the umbrella of the Teamwork Foundation, Inc.—have served economically disadvantaged minority boys and girls between the ages of five and 10. To date, more than 10,000 kids have benefited from the program. Games start at 10 am; take the 2, 4, or 5 trains to 149th Street and Grand Concourse.
