There’s nothing ancient about the Pyramid Club except for the drag queens who made 101 Avenue A their home back in the day. But the storied nightclub that somehow still exists—albeit for a more straight-edged clientele—had a long history before cross-dressing performance artists and Warhol’s entourage started doing coke, or what-have-you, in the back. The 130-year-old tenement, which was the first-ever proposed “drag landmark,” was actually an important German social hall and played an important role in New York’s labor history.
