Considering the surge of pet-grooming salons and Doggie Day Cares in Manhattan, canines and their owners no longer have any excuse for poor hygiene. But the titular pooch in this play, adapted from Gene Zion’s gorgeous children’s book, despised ablutionary activities. Unsanitary high jinks ensue.
