The day of the r&b band is gone. Its for the worse, certainly, although that can't provide veterans Mint Condition much comfort. The Minneapolis-St. Paul outfit has been marginal since their last mid-90s chart riser, "What Kind of Man Would I Be," but they havent faltered creatively, releasing four grown folks albums since. That they comfortably trouble love and relationship with vulnerability separates the quintet from their glib and base colleagues but lead Stokley's vein-popping vocals, distressed and incisive when traveling his bandmates' expert musicianship, are the real thing.
