Now in its third year, the P.S.29 Literary Salon Series in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, keeps getting better, thanks to the slew of authors residing in the neighborhood who are eager to share their new material with bookish locals. The salon’s first of four evenings features Gossip Girl author Cecily von Ziegesar (!), essayist and writing teacher Dominic Preziosi, and journalist turned fictioneer Julia Lichtblau. For those curious about von Ziegesar’s latest work: She told us that Cum Laude (published this September) is a departure from Gossip Girl because it’s not for a teenage audience: “Cum Laude takes place at a small college in Maine. The protagonist is a blonde from Connecticut, the object of many of her male classmates’ fantasies.” Yeah, what teenager would want to read that? The book involves a mysterious reappearance, murder, James Taylor, Ecstasy, and a little Scientology.
