If you thought Spitzer had some kind of wacky private life, it's nothing compared to that of Edward Hyde, Lord Cornbury, an English governor of New York and New Jersey in the early 18th century. You see, Cornbury liked to dress like his cousin—that'd be Queen Anne. Obie winner David Greenspan plays the title character in Cornbury: The Queen's Governor, a satirical new play from Theatre Askew that delves into the governor's fancy wardrobe and imagines how a portrait of him in a dress ended up hanging at the New-York Historical Society. Greenspan's no stranger to drag, having bowled over audiences in Some Men while wearing a dress. But Cornbury's (or should we say Queen Anne's?) style leaves a little something to be desired.
