Wanda

(Barbara Loden, 1970). This superb picaresque feature, one of the rare major American movies of its period directed by a woman, stars Loden (aka Mrs. Elia Kazan), as an uneducated woman who gives up her children during a divorce, wanders about, and takes up with a small-time thief. Her character is sympathetic and extremely moving. A truly special flick, one not to be missed.
