An investigation of failure, loss, and the Bundrens
William Faulkner's 1930 novel As I Lay Dying, concerning the Bundren family's journey to bury their matriarch, Addie, opens straightforwardly enough with the son, Darl, recounting: "Jewel and I come up from the field, following the path in single file." Yet paths and single file are soon forgotten as 14 other narrators crowd in, streams of consciousness aflow. Chuck. Chuck. Chuck. is Immediate Medium's adaptation of this convoluted 59-chapter novel to the stage, offering "an investigation of dislocation, failure, and loss." Using music, dance, video, and other mixed media, they present a highly experimental funeral cortege. Director JJ Lind serves as chief mourner.
