HOW GENIUS

Richard Foreman and John Zorn team up

With Earth having whirled far away from the sun, Venus bright in the sky, and the Pleiades gleaming, the stars have aligned for a new Richard Foreman play, Astronome: A Night at the Opera. This time, the acclaimed and inscrutable writer-director teamed up with a similarly mystic artist, the composer John Zorn. Together, they will merge their MacArthur geniuses in the service of this piece, which concerns a world "where ambiguous behavior alone leads to freedom." A cast of seven unknowns will cavort in magnificent costumes and outré eye makeup, clutching outsized props as Zorn's avant-hard-core, nonverbal opera (a mix of groans, whines, and ululations) plays in the background.
Tuesdays, Thursdays-Sundays, 8 p.m. Starts: Feb. 5. Continues through April 5, 2009
