Sometimes a ting-ting-a-ling, sometime a boom-crash; there's nothing but dynamics in play when the drummer's working his mercurial trip. Motian's most enticing when his lines decorate the action of his work mates, and this collabo with pianist Jason Moran and saxophonist Chris Potter should be equal parts stark and startling. Each participant has a whimsical side, and each hears melody in a truly singular manner.
