While any performer who has consistently worked in the downtown theater world for the last 20 years would garner "legendary" status purely because they've lasted that long, Edgar Oliver is the kind of legend that inspires people to move to New York. The former Pyramid Club regular's unassuming presence, coupled with a Boris Karloffian timbre, makes for a ticklesome and twisted delivery of original stories and poems that so frequently have to do with murder (like his "The Beautiful Boy and the Ugly Boy," about a gay love interest gone haywire). His East 10th Street: Self Portrait With Empty House indulges us in Oliver's history in New York as told by his oddball persona: The one-man play is about the strange tenement where he has lived since he first moved to New York. (Even this legend had to come from somewhere.)
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Feb. 12. Continues through Feb. 28, 2009
