70 and Swingin’

Blue Note Records reaches a milestone

Just in time to close Fashion Week, three of the most stylish performers in contemporary jazz join forces for The Best of Blue Note Records: Hard Bop and Beyond. First up is Dianne Reeves, a vocal mainstay for three decades—in session work in the late ’70s, a collaborator with Sérgio Mendes and Harry Belafonte in the ’80s, and now a Grammy-winning solo artist revered for her scat skills. She’ll share the stage with the saintly Wynton Marsalis—trumpeter, composer, big-band leader, education advocate—and tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano, Down Beat award winner and founder of the Saxophone Summit. Their three nights together should be inventive and poised—a fitting tribute to Blue Note’s 70th anniversary of classical jazz.
