Artists get crafty with needle and thread

By Araceli Cruz

Needlepoint may have a reputation for being just for grandmothers, but don’t tell that to the young embroiderers featured in Gallery Hanahou’s latest exhibition Forget Me-Not. The group show, curated by crafter Kristen Rask, dives into the art of needle and thread with pieces created on the theme of love. And here, love can mean anything from a unicorn puking rainbows and hearts (Kris Garland’s “Hearty Barf”) to a woman spinning a Price Is Right–style wheel of love (Sarah Horton’s “Lucky in Love”). Other elements explored by the artists include travel, healing, time, personal narratives, and forgotten moments. With many works priced under $100, you might be inspired to add one of these kitchsy masterpieces to your home. Grandma would surely approve.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m. Starts: Feb. 6. Continues through Feb. 27, 2009
