THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT

Witness black metal, American-style

Those down with the extreme metal sub-genre "black metal" may get their leather-studded panties in a knot for this rare appearance from one of the longest-running—and most "tr00 kvlt"—U.S. BM crews, Krieg. Led by sole founding member and scene big cat, Imperial, this corpse-painted multi-instrumentalist is associated with a sundry of highly respected glass-gargling, nihilism-practicing projects such as Judas Iscariot, Twilight, Nachtmystium, Devotee, Demonic Christ, and March Into the Sea. Tonight's (all) blackened extravaganza also features raw and lo-fi noise from Philadelphia's Woe (excelling in a kind of black 'n' roll variation), and two slightly-riffing-outside-the-pentagram locals: Malkuth, who feature a member of the No Neck Blues Band, and Liturgy, a sort of angular, post-rocked take on Krieg's old-school mayhem.
