(Ivan Passer, 1965). Ivan Passer made but one feature in his native Czechoslovakia, but it was a small masterpiece—a rueful, droll, casually heartbreaking study of two old friends, both provincial musicians, who briefly reconnect. Less interested in narrative than a state of being, the movie is as subtle in its emotional effects as its title would suggest.
