OTAKU ATTACK

Japan Society takes you to Tokyo

Visiting Tokyo's Akihabara (a/k/a Electric Town) is not unlike entering an alternate universe where geeks rule, older businessmen pay to play board games with girls in French maid costumes, and no one thinks twice about teenagers dressed as Sailor Moon. If you've never been, consider Japan Society's new exhibition KRAZY! The Delirious World of Anime + Manga + Video Games your virtual passport. Here, a series of rooms, designed by the Tokyo-based architectural firm Atelier Bow-Wow, takes you into an otaku fantasyland. Hang out in the "Anime Garden," where you can see simultaneous projections of six groundbreaking films, or check out the "Manga Pod," with nearly a thousand magazines, rare drawings, action figures, and video games you can play. And mark your calendars for the Cosplay Party on March 28, which has a costume contest and prizes.
