Cops and artists face off

During the 20 years he was a member of the Transit Police Vandal Squad, Joseph Rivera arrested some of graffiti's most legendary writers. So you can only imagine the frustration of the graffiti community when powerHouse Books recently published his tell-all, Vandal Squad: Inside the New York City Transit Police Department, 1984–2004. Tonight, former members of the Vandal Squad and graffiti artists come together for what should be a heated discussion of the book and the Vandal Squad's strategies. The panel includes Rivera, former Commanding Officer Lieutenant Steven Mona, original Vandal Squad Lieutenant Ken Chiulli, graffiti artist COPE2, graffiti activist Ket, and street artist ELLIS G. Stern Rockwell, of the website Streets Are Saying Things (saster.net), moderates.
