IN THE GROOVE

Excepter and pals welcome spring

Last year, prolific Brooklyn noiseniks Excepter released Debt Dept., their first album for Animal Collective's Paw Tracks imprint. It's an estimable indie-psych union that, as expected, drew out the tribal-funk groove and DayGlo melodicism of Excepter's sound (check out Debt Dept.'s single-of-sorts "Kill People," which could easily pass for the B-52's covering "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails). Accessibility being a wildly relative concept here, it's probably unwise to expect them to make much use of verses and choruses tonight, particularly in light of the fact that they're sharing the bill—a "Spring Equinox Alliance," per the Glasslands blog—with the arty likes of Chicago's death-disco duo Gatekeeper, New York's planetarium-friendly Infinity Window, and trippy Stellar Om Source from the Netherlands. Strawberry jam, anyone?
