Tony Scherr

It's all one big song to the Sex Mob bassist. His ongoing Monday residency at this Red Hook instrument shop picks up where those celebrated Marion's gigs left off last year. Though rocking is on the agenda, melancholy is a strata stance; whether he's whispering his way through a Willie Nelson weeper or balling "Heart of Stone" into an ornery lament, Scherr's froggy vocals and snappy rhythm section paste together off-kilter angst that places passion over precision. It's the kind of move that makes him the Neil Young of 11231.
