The drummer swept into town and impressed the scene with a fierce propulsion that knows the difference between steam and simmer. From injecting Bill Frisell’s stuff with extra drama to hustling JD Allen’s trio along, he’s a big plus on the stand. This is one of his first local gigs as a leader, and the fact that he’s teamed trumpeter Ralph Alessi and saxophonist Stacy Dillard suggests he might have some winding roads to stroll.
