Featuring members of epic post-rock institution Mogwai and sludgers Iron Monkey, Crippled Black Phoenix is no doubt a heavy proposition prone to fits of ecstasy and wandering. A doom-obsessed band, naturally signed to the label run by Portisheads Geoff Barrow, CBP is a little mellower than their name implies but no less moody. Their 200 Tons Of Bad Luck explores all areas of meandering bummer beauty: Cans hypnotic pulses, Acid Mothers Temples stoner fuzz, Neurosiss apocalyptic sample techniques. With Ascent of Everest and Charles Atlas.
