This sweet double bill features two new bands from as many DIY lifers: Chain and the Gang is the latest project from former Nation of Ulysses/Make-Up dude Ian Svenonius; on Down with Liberty … Up with Chains! they add a little gutbucket funk to Svenonius’s long-established soul-punk sound. Beat Happening frontman (and K Records founder) Calvin Johnson’s fresh Hive Dwellers outfit shares members with Chain and the Gang; hopefully their stuff doesn’t share too much with Johnson’s last several solo discs.
