Here’s a jazz drummer who wields all sorts of subtleties. His swing is flecked with funk; his groove provides nuanced polyrhythms. He’s been the fire behind his more visible brother, Marcus, but lately he’s been making his own moves. The shared lingo he and his cohort are refining has a knock ‘em sock ‘em feel, and its physicality is a rush. This weekend’s outfit is a particularly impressive group (Luis Perdomo, Logan Richardson) and hearing them pass the ball around should be a blast.
