Jeremy Udden's Plainville

One pal tried to file this music under “jazz for Wilco fans,” but just because the young alto saxophonist blends pump organ, pedal steel, and banjo into the mix doesn’t mean it’s twang city all night long. On their new Fresh Sound album, Udden’s ensemble has just as much in common with Frisell’s dreams and Scheinman’s reflections—a rural vibe that has a dash of a New England starkness to it, even when the aggression takes over.
