Young talent hits the gilded stage
How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice . . . and it doesn't hurt to be an 18-year-old piano supernova from Russia who won his first national competition at age eight, first international contest at age 12, and the illustrious San Marino International Piano Competition at age 17. (Got that?) Prodigal symphonists don’t get any more exhilarating than Daniil Trifonov, who makes his Carnegie Hall debut in conjunction with the Guzik Foundation 2008 Awards (which, of course, he also won). He’ll perform a typically meticulous, Schubert-heavy set, including Die Forelle and Erlkönig. Moscow violinist Yuri Revich, also 18, performs a poppier second act of Gershwin, Vieuxtemps, and Brahms. Or, hey, come over to the Voice—we’ll be working on our screenplays.
