Now that the main wellspring for the Thermals’ punky, frenetic diatribes has left office for the Lone Star State’s vast verdant golf courses, the Portland indie-rock group did the only sensible thing they could for their fourth full-length, Now We Can See: They wrote catchy songs. And even though they’re not urgently decrying the wrongdoings of the religious right or corporate whosawhat, which will likely still sound fresh in concert given frontman Hutch Harris’s trademark squall, the band still sounds pretty great crashing out songs of love and drunkenness for a change.
