Seems like any folk-ish artist with melancholy whispery vocals and fluid fingerstyle guitars gets a comparison to Nick Drake, but Sam Beam (a/k/a Iron & Wine) is a true heir: With the exception of his full-band-boosted (and slightly too cluttered) previous CD, The Shepherd's Dog, Beam's wonderful cozy tunes invite you to wrap up in a Snuggie and ooze into the couch with some red wine and Vicodin. These series of NYC shows are a few celebrating his forthcoming record, Around the Well, a double-disc collection of rare and unreleased material.
