Theater for the New City stays true to downtown arts
Despite the financial woes that continue to loom, there's still at least one institution that won't give in to dire times: Theater For the New City once again presents its Lower East Side Festival of the Arts, and, as usual, all festivities will be free of charge. The theme of this 14th annual event is "Art: A Necessity for Life, in Good Times and Bad Times," and to prove the point, the organizers are offering three days' worth of poetry readings, cabaret, burlesque, music, comedy, dance, and theater—more than enough culture and excitement to get you feeling bullish again.
