Sometime in 1985, two teenaged boys find an abandoned cassette tape: "It's blue, it's plastic, it's home recorded and bought from K-Mart, 60 minutes long and, written on the label, it says, 'Dreams are free, motherfucker!' " Duck and Mickey, the 13-year-olds of Gregory Moss's punkplay, pop in the tape and enter a world of music that feels like "a red fever-dream blur, hot and fast and angry and ALIVE." While the Ramones, the Germs, and the Sex Pistols throb, the two boys navigate the set list of adolescence. The Obie-winning Clubbed Thumb stages Gregory Moss's sharp, stirring, dude-centric script—the first play in their annual Summerworks festival. Davis McCallum directs the Gabba Gabba Hey.
