Anchors Dropped, Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band's debut, drops via Dead Oceans, whose roster includes such wooze-pop alchemists as Akron/Family, Dirty Projectors, and Evangelicals. That makes sense. While indie rock is the starting point on Anchors, MSHVB loves revving everything up—more harmonies, more scatterbrained, wire-guided guitars, more heady lyrics that might not make sense—and the cacophony eventually finds its way back to indie rock again. With Chicago's Disappears, the new project of Ponys guy Brian Case. They turn the phrase "glowering sexily" into its own genre.
