A friend wondered for a moment if he was listening to two albums at once as I spun Kelenia, this Israel-born saxophone and clarinet player's mellow and fairly magical collaboration with Mali musicians Balla Kouyate (balafon) and Makane Kouyate (calabash). There's a graceful wood-grain quality to the cross-cultural conversations the trio unspool amid traditional pentatonic melodies, the occasional Ellington cover, and Etkin originals such as "Lacy."
