POUR SOME BEER ON ME

Amateur cook-offs escalate to alcohol

Culinary aficionados Theo Peck and Nick Suarez—rivals at practically every cook-off in New York (almost always tying in second place)—are temporarily putting down their chef's knives to co-present the Brooklyn Beer Experiment—their first food competition. Any dish of your own creation that includes beer is clear to enter. Aside from the beer-infused dishes, there will be a separate competition for home-brewed beer—and, of course, all of it is up for sampling. Guest judges include folks from the Food Network, Brooklyn Brewery, and Crif Dogs/PDT, among others. Aiming to win? Take this pointer from the cook-off experts: "If the audience is only getting one bite . . . you have to pack as much flavor as you can into that bite."
